Seas of scree. Much of our quest to bike all of Colorado’s legal 14,000’ peaks looked like this; barren and barely ridable. It’s something we started out hating, learned to tolerate, and eventually became addicted to. It’s a different kind of technical riding that most people are used to but it’s a fun challenge and allows you to interact intimately with scenes like this; to become a part of the mountain in a different way. Moments before this, it was snowing hard on the summit. Our hands were balled in our armpits. Moments after this, we were descending through a verdant green valley that looked more like Ireland than Colorado.
