A city of the dead blends into a city of the living. This photo for me represents the cycle of life and inevitability of death. Asia always makes me feel small and insignificant, the same way some people feel when they stare into the ocean or the starry night sky. Watching droves of humans hustling and bustling on with their lives on the other side of the globe somehow makes me viscerally feel the shortness and cosmic meaninglessness of our lives. However, I’m soothed by Asian culture’s beautiful way of accepting their personal role in a greater cosmic and social play. It reminds me of a favorite quote from the Samurai Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, “I came like the dew. I vanished like the dew.”
